My 1000th Item!!

Today I have finally reached that big milestone…1000 Madonna items in my collection. And the special 1000th item is the DCC (Digital Compact Cassette) of The Immaculate Collection from Holland! The DCC was a short lived format introduced around 1992 and discontinued only a few years after. I had never even heard of this format until I started collecting Madonna, and they have been on my radar ever since. There were only 2 albums for her released in this format: The Immaculate Collection and Erotica…and the Erotica one is one of my all-time most-wanted items!

Bitch I’m Madonna Talk & Other Random Comments

Ok, so the video for “Bitch I’m Madonna” premiered yesterday and I have to say I’m underwhelmed. It just seems very thrown together. I feel like they hyped it up so much that the final product just landed with a soft thud instead of a loud bang. First the video premiere was delayed by a day because they didn’t finish it on time. Then the Tidal upload is screwed up with the ending of the video freezing up. Anyone who doesn’t have Tidal was relegated to watching low quality rips on Youtube. I feel like the whole Tidal exclusive premiere took away from the excitement of the release. How many people have Tidal anyway? The celebrity cameos were pretty much useless. It would have been a lot more fun if they had actually been on the set interacting with Madonna.

Ranking The Album Tracks Part 5: I’m Breathless (1990)

Madonna took on her Dick Tracy film persona of Breathless Mahoney for this part-movie-soundtrack / part-concept-album which was stylistically indicative of the film’s 1930’s time frame. It was a big departure from Madonna’s previous musical work; and the album seemed to cut Like A Prayer‘s promotional timeline short (as that album had only been released a year prior). I’m Breathless is not of of my favorite Madonna albums, but I do think it has some fun moments. Let’s get to it:

Bitch, It’s Awful

As collectors, we collect Madonna’s CDs and vinyl records not only for the music contained within them, but a very important part of it is also the visual aspect. We like things to look great, right? Well, today Madonna unleashed the horrendous front cover of “Bitch I’m Madonna”. With so many great designers in the world, it shocks me…shocks me that this is what she chose to use. And if she didn’t choose it herself, I’m surprised that she lets people run wild with these horrible choices. I didn’t love the “Ghosttown” cover because I thought that looked amateurish…and now we have this. First of all, that is not a flattering picture of her. The picture doesn’t even look like they color corrected it or edited it in any way besides a really sloppy cut-out of the original background, and then they pasted it on some random color-filled background. I still hope for a CD single but it’s not going to look very pretty with this god awful cover picture. Sigh.
