Record Store Day 2018

Screen Shot 2018-04-24 at 6.43.08 PMSo, as you are all aware, last Saturday was Record Store Day once again. This is the third year in a row that has featured a Madonna release (well, this year, two!), so of course, this was my third year attending at Amoeba Music in Hollywood. My first year I showed up at 5am (that was rough!), last year I showed up at 8am, and this year I showed up at 7am. All three times, the line was already down the block and the store doesn’t officially open until 10:30am. Luckily, they have a very organized system at Amoeba and they start ringing people up before the store officially opens (around 9am, I think). I was a lot more excited this year because of the fact that we got two Madonna releases. Both are much better than last year’s release of Dance Mix, and the fact that we got both of them in the same RSD is amazing! The picture disc replica of The First Album is so beautiful. The colors are bright and vibrant. I don’t have any of these original Japanese picture discs from the 80’s so this one is a real treat. I also love the opaque red vinyl You Can Dance reissue. And they threw in a huge fold-out poster for good measure. These were such fun choices! They seemed to be really popular too, which bodes well for future Madonna Record Store Day releases. I hope they do 2 more records again next year. All of them so far have been from the 80’s, which I understand because they appeal more to the general record buying public, but I hope they take a chance and release something from the 90’s for RSD 2019.
