Since late last year, the rumors started about what we are supposedly getting released in the first quarter of 2019. I’m definitely ready for some new releases so I thought I’d take a look at what’s been making the rounds as far as potential vinyl reissues.
Rumor: Celebration 4X Vinyl Re-Issue
This rumor popped up around October of last year. Supposedly, this was going to be released on February 14th of this year. No legit source was ever credited, as far as I’m aware. The Celebration vinyl set been one of the most desired reissues, mostly from people who don’t own a copy of the scarce original pressings. This vinyl set has been noticeably hard to get since right after the initial batch was released and sold out and commands prices in the hundreds on ebay, sealed or not.
Probability of this actually happening: Unlikely. The Immaculate Collection was recently reissued a few times and is definitely the go-to Madonna hits collection, especially for the general public. I really don’t think Rhino would bother re-issuing a four-disc hits set. Not yet anyway. Plus, if this was going to be released next month, where are the pre-order listings? Seems a little late for that now. I think this was all just someone’s made up fantasy that got passed off as news.
Rumor: I’m Breathless Yellow Vinyl Re-Issue
This rumor came out at the very beginning of this year, I believe. It originated from a pre-order page on a Hungarian music site (that I’ve never heard of, but I suppose that makes since since they’re in Hungary) which states that the release date is February 22nd, 2019. I haven’t seen any pre-order links, or any other confirmation for this release on any other retailer pages since.
Probability of this actually happening: Likely…but not yet. Even though I haven’t seen any confirmation of this release, a re-issue of I’m Breathless is bound to happen soon. It’s one of two Madonna Warner Bros. albums (along with Hard Candy) that hasn’t been reissued in the past few years, and a yellow pressing seems like a no-brainer novelty color for this film soundtrack. However, I think the February 22nd release date is very unlikely since it’s right around the corner and, like I said, there haven’t been any pre-order links anywhere else. I do have a feeling this one will happen eventually, though.
Rumor: True Blue and La Isla Bonita Japanese EP Vinyl Re-Issues on Colored Vinyl for Record Store Day 2019
This rumor started on December of last year. No credible source was given, it just appeared out of thin air. Supposedly, True Blue Super Club Mix will be re-pressed on blue vinyl and La Isla Bonita Super Mix on green vinyl.
Probability of this actually happening: Likely, but who knows! RSD has already produced replicas of other Japanese releases so this sounds like something that could happen. On the other hand, based on that logic I suppose it would also be easy for someone to make up that information as well. We probably won’t get confirmation of this until the official RSD list is released so I think we have to wait and see on these.
