Record Store Day 2018

So as we are all aware, we are getting not one, but two Madonna vinyl releases for Record Store Day next month! As with Madonna’s previous releases for the last 2 RDS’s, they will both be replica reissues of previous vinyl records. The first is the Japanese LP picture disc of The First Album, and the second is You Can Dance on RED vinyl (I’ve been saying it for the last year and a half that they needed to get on this and it’s finally happening!). I’m pretty excited about these choices. They are certainly much better than last year’s release of Dance Mix, which left much to be desired, especially since it wasn’t at least pressed on colored vinyl. It was also available in stores here in Los Angeles several months after its release so it didn’t seen to be a very popular title. I can’t wait for Record Store Day. I’ll be at my local store early but not too early because it appears that both records will be pressed in large quantities. Bring on the vinyl!

Random March Thoughts

Ray Of Light: 20th Anniversary
When I really stop to think about it, it’s pretty mind-blowing that Ray of Light is celebrating 20 years of release tomorrow (it was released on March 3rd in the USA). It felt like FOREVER since Madonna had released a new studio album. The wait from Bedtime Stories to Ray of Light felt excruciatingly long. On the way home, I couldn’t stop staring at the beautiful CD in my hands. I read the song list over and over and admired the beautiful design of the front and back covers. I wondered what the songs sounded like (keep in mind, this was before the days of leaked albums!). The only song I knew from hearing on the radio was “Frozen”. It took my young mind a few plays, but once the album sank in with me, I swear it didn’t leave my CD player for the next year. I listened to it or at least one song from Ray Of Light every single day for at least a year. There was such a magic in the air during that time. She was getting so much respect from fans and the press. It was cool to be a Madonna fan again. She had completely changed. 20 years later, the album still holds up as one of Madonna’s finest artistic moments. I truly hope she gets as inspired to make another album like this one day.

Record Store Day 2018
So the rumors are starting. I heard today that we may be in for two Madonna releases this year for Record Store Day (one of which is a picture disc). Crossing my fingers! The official list should be released very soon so we will know any day now! I can’t wait.

Collecting In February
I had a VERY good collecting month in February, certainly my best month in a long while! I’ve been practically living on ebay. I’m pretty obsessed with CD singles at the moment, particularly with filling in some holes in my collection of common pressings from Europe and Canada. I also need to start completing my Japanese CD collection. Those can be really expensive, though, especially first pressings. I figured I would have a slower month in March, though I’ve already got 5 new items coming for the month so who knows!
